The VDE Certification Marks are registered and protected in more than 30 countries. Manufacturers in more than 50 countries affix the VDE Mark to their products. In numerous countries, the VDE Mark is a standard condition for importing goods. In some cases, it is even more demanding than local approval marks.
The VDE Institute and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) has just opened a joint testing centre for photovoltaic-module in Freiburg, Germany. In order to strengthen this cooperation in the international level, on October 2nd 2008, a new joint venture corporation – the VDE-Fraunhofer ISE Pte Ltd. - was launched in Singapore.
EN 60335-2-9 A12:2007 comes into force on 1st October 2008. This amendment has included the new requirement of the temperature rise measurement on hot functional surfaces of products (e.g. pop-corn maker, raclette grill, ovens, rotary grill, cookers, bread maker, waffle maker, sandwich maker, etc).
As of September 1 2008, the VDE Testing and Certification Institute in Offenbach has acquired the Rapid Environmental Lab (REAL) from Motorola.
The new specifications of the household appliance standard DIN EN 60335-1 / VDE 0700-1 and the certification of plastics by the VDE Institute offer four benefits, most of all, to processors: a huge reduction in testing costs, increased planning certainty, shorter development times and access to plastics that comply with all important flame protection standards around the world.
